Khayelitsha Hub - Why We Need an Education Center
In Khayelitsha, one of South Africa's largest townships, our community lacks a dedicated space where people can expand their technical knowledge and skills—from computer literacy and English writing to coding and Bitcoin education.
We've identified a space that we want to buy and reconstruct into this community hub. Our vision is to transform our local circular economy by creating a center for Bitcoin education and digital empowerment that serves as a beacon of learning and innovation.
Your support makes the difference. Your donations will help us build more than just a building—they'll create a vibrant space where our community can gather, learn, and grow together.
Help us make this vision a reality.
A possible community hub building

About BitcoinLoxion
Bitcoin Loxion is a project focused on building a Bitcoin circular economy in one of the largest townships in South Africa. We mission-driven to empower our community and provide decentralized payment network that will help to bring about long term financial freedom.

How it Began
BitcoinLoxion came to life after Adopting Bitcoin Cape Town 2024. Initially, we held weekly Bitcoin meet-ups, but soon realized that most people lacked accurate information. To address this, we partnered with Trezor Academy to offer Bitcoin education in Khayelitsha. On top, we introduced the "My First Bitcoin" diploma program. In our efforts to establish a Bitcoin circular economy, we started Igadi Yethemba, a garden project where workers earn their stipends in Bitcoin, helping to circulate bitcoin within the community.

Proof of Work
The adopting of Bitcoin in Khayelitsha became our biggest achievement. The real breakthrough came when local merchants started accepting Bitcoin payments. At the same time, our community harvested vegetables from our garden, selling our produce to the community, and embracing Bitcoin for transactions. Implementing Bitcoin into the daily life is a powerful step toward financial inclusion and economic empowerment in the area.

The Impact
We've built a growing community that understands the impact Bitcoin can have for its future, though our work is not done yet. When we realized that the people of Khayelitsha had no easy way to buy Bitcoin, we found a solution—creating opportunities for them to earn it instead.
Our gardeners

Through our initiatives, we are empowering families by creating multiple earning opportunities. We launched a garden project where workers receive their stipends in Bitcoin, helping to circulate it within the community and build a true Bitcoin economy. Shack owners who have painted their homes as part of our project also earn Bitcoin stipends every two weeks. Together, these programs ensure financial inclusion while strengthening Khayelitsha's circular Bitcoin economy.
In 2024, we launched a diploma program in collaboration with Bitcoin Ubuntu, giving the people of Khayelitsha an in-depth education on Bitcoin. We have more cohorts planned for 2025—and we're just getting started!
